In recent years, large-tile ceramic tiles have become more and more popular among consumers due to their simple and elegant decorative effects, fewer seams, and cleaner appearance. Major ceramic tile brands have also launched large-sized ceramic tiles in an attempt to break through the traditional small-sized ceramic tiles. The aesthetic fatigue caused by it. However, although large slabs of ceramic tiles are good, laying them is not easy. If it is not laid correctly, the slab will lose its decorative charm.

Today we will learn about the professional knowledge of laying large-sized ceramic tiles. As a person in the ceramics industry, even if you are not a paving master, you still need to understand these professional knowledge about ceramic tiles~

Preparation

Before laying, we need to prepare the tools for laying large-sized tiles, such as industrial-grade tile suction cups, mobile fixing racks, special tile protective movable brackets, lightweight plastic hammers, rulers, steel tile knives, gray Spoon, tile leveler, strong tile adhesive, sponge caulking scraper, cleaning sponge, etc.

Inspection before paving

Construction drawing proofreading, flatness testing, verticality testing, water and electricity pipeline laying testing and waterproofing are the prerequisites to ensure the best ceramic tile laying effect and create a high-quality living space.
After the inspection confirms that there are no problems, the large-sized ceramic tiles need to be transported to the designated location using special tools (suction cups). Personnel and tools need to be reasonably arranged during transportation to ensure that the ceramic tiles are not damaged. Noodles

Basic surface treatment

Remove floating ash, oil and other stains from the base layer to avoid affecting the adhesion of the tile adhesive. The interior of the base surface must be kept flat. Uneven or rough surfaces can be smoothed with cement mortar. At the same time, the construction base surface must be fully moistened to prevent hollowing.

Prepare tile adhesive

1. Add tap water to the mixing bucket, and then add the adhesive one by one. The mixing ratio is generally: 1 part water: 4 parts dry powder (refer to the product packaging instructions for details). Use a low-speed electric mixer to stir evenly into a paste.
2. After hydration (resting) for 5-10 minutes, stir twice for about 3 minutes before use. (The hydrated binder cannot be added with water or dry binder powder and stirred again, otherwise the bonding effect will be affected)
3. Use a dusting knife to pick up the evenly stirred adhesive and turn it upside down. The adhesive will fall from the dusting knife in about 5 seconds. At this time, the adhesive has the best viscosity.
Note that the adhesive needs to stand for 5-10 minutes after preparation. The operating time of the adhesive is 2 hours at room temperature. (Operation time refers to the time from preparation to use).

Apply tile adhesive

Spread a layer of tile adhesive evenly on the ground to form a semi-dry layer, and then use tile adhesive to fill in the uneven areas on the surface with a thickness of about 0.5CM; under appropriate conditions, the tile adhesive can be evenly applied to the tiles at the same time On the back, the tile glue is required to be applied fully.

When back-coating ceramic tiles, you need to use a toothed plasterer to spread the tile adhesive evenly into a tooth shape. Note that when scraping glue, the base surface and the large plate must be scraped in the same direction to facilitate air discharge and avoid cracking and falling off caused by hollowing of the tile glue.

Transportation and paving

Use a three-hole glass suction tool to lift the large slab horizontally and move it to the construction position, and place it on the base surface where the tile glue has been laid. At least 2 workers are required to carry it; for larger areas, use a mobile frame to carry it. The order of pasting the large boards is "from the inside out". The fullness of the adhesive must be ensured to avoid hollowing. According to the design requirements, a positioner of appropriate specifications should be used when pasting the ceramic large plate to ensure that the size of the gap meets the design requirements and the width of the gap is consistent.

Pave and compact

Lay the tiles evenly on the base layer so thatUse a rubber hammer or a plastic flat plate to lay the tiles firmly and flatly so that the grout between the large tiles and the base surface can be filled and air bubbles can be discharged to avoid hollowing. Note that when tapping the surface of a large tile that has been laid, you must control the intensity. The tapping direction can be from the middle of the tile to the surrounding areas. Use a rubber mallet or plastic flat plate to knock the tiles flat, and measure with a ruler to ensure the tiles are laid levelly.

Leveling treatment

Insert the leveler base every 60cm around the edge of the positioned large board. After checking the leveling, insert the leveling wedge and clamp the leveler. Adjust the surface flatness of the adjacent large boards and adjust the gap between the large boards to 2mm. left and right for subsequent sealant treatment.

Empty drum inspection

An hour after paving, use a rubber hammer to tap the brick surface to check whether there is hollowing. If you hear a "hollow" sound from the floor tiles, you must try to re-lay them. Caulking construction can be carried out 24 hours after the ceramic tiles are laid.

Brick surface cleaning

Add the remaining glue promptlyClean the agent, dust, and sand, and 24 hours after the tiles are laid before caulking. You can use a sponge caulking scraper to clean the gaps between ceramic tiles, wait for the caulking agent to solidify, and then clean up the excess caulking agent.
